- Jesse Lee Long, 83, of Elizabethton, who was a good man, good husband and good father, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019, at his residence.
A native of Frankfort, Ky., he was a son of the late John and Gertrude Younger Long.
Mr. Long had lived most of his life in Carter County. He served in the United States Army and was employed as a machinist. He attended Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. His hobbies were fishing, camping, woodworking, traveling and he loved his dogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Smith Long, and a son, Lee Long.
Survivors include two sons, David Long and wife Lori, Elizabethton, and Chris Long, of the home, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Jesse Lee Long will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, in the Smith Cemetery (Nave Hollow) with Dr. Bill Duncan and Rev. James Hawk officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Friday, will be Austin Taylor, Derrick Wilson, Luke Carr, Jimmy Johnson, Matthew Rosenbaum, Andy Wilson and Jacob Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Denny Grindstaff, Kenneth Grindstaff, Terry Buckles and Dallas Pierce. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Eula Lee Pierce, Sherry Kaye and the doctors and staff at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
