- Glen O. Tester, 69, Hampton, TN went home to be with his Lord, on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Ben and Lillie Baird Tester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Estes Tester. Mr. Tester was a teacher at Cloudland High School for over forty-four years where he taught chemistry and physics. During his time teaching he was the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award, Outstanding Teachers Awards and the Crystal Apple Award. He was a member of Union Baptist Church where he served the church as a deacon and as the custodian. His favorite things in life were teaching school and working for his church. Mr. Tester is survived by his wife, Velma Tester, of the home; a son, Scotty Tester and his wife, Amanda, Hampton; two grandchildren, Marissa Marie Tester, Mark Scott Tester; a brother, Richard Tester and his wife, Betty; a sister-in-law, Glenda Ranshaw and her husband, Doug; three nieces, Tiffany Arnett, Amy Lowe, Amanda Blair and a nephew, Travis Ranshaw. Several great-nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Tester will be conducted on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 8:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Dr. Danny Bright, Rev. Mickey Beal and Rev. Danny Blevins officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dr. Danny Bright. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday prior to the service and at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Winters, Dan Winters, Randy Birchfield, Michael Miller, Steve Branton, Smith Davenport, Kenneth Rainbolt and Doug Ranshaw. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Union Baptist Church, Ralph Yates, Harvey Presnell and Jerry Edminsten. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet the family at the cemetery at 9:50 AM. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Sholes and Kristen Johnson, Dr. Kincaid and the nurses and doctors of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital for the care and concern shown to Mr. Tester and the family.
