Thomas A. Pope, age 73, of Bristol, route 2, died at the home of a sister, Mrs. L.B. Robinson Saturday morning after a long illness. He was a native of Ashe County, N.C. but spent most of his life in Johnson County. He was the son of the late Calvin and Emma Martin Pope of Forge Creek community. Mr. Pope was a retired merchant and member of the Christian Church.
Survivors are two brothers, Arthur Pope, Boise, Idaho and Wilburn Pope, Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Dunn of Shouns and Mrs. L.B. Robinson, of Bristol, Tenn.; also a number of nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were conducted from the Lewis Gentry Funeral Home chapel Monday at 2 p.m. with H.T. Mabry officiating. The burial was in McEwen cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Payne, Perry Lipford, Ray Morefield, Dale Dunn, Russell Dowell, Kay Brown and Russell Dunn. Flowerbearers[sic] were friends and neighbors.
