- James S. "Black" Johnson, Jr., 80, 197 Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late James S. and Bertha Heaton Johnson, Sr.
He was a lifelong member of Roan Mountain United Methodist Church. Mr.
Johnson was the retired owner and operator of Johnson Electric Company. He
was a 50-year member of Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge 566 F & AM. Mr. Johnson
was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Crystal Whitehead Johnson, of the home; a
daughter and son-in-law, Lucy Nell and George Sells, Johnson City; two sons
and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Janie Johnson, Elizabethton; and Pat and
Maggie Johnson, Oldsmar, Fla.; one sister, Evelyn Gray, Roan Mountain;
four grandchildren: Cindy Mongle, Big Stone Gap, Va.; Kathy Wirth, Atlanta,
Ga.; James Johnson, Mooresville, N.C.; and Stuart Johnson, Concord, N.C.;
four great-grandchildren: Carrie Stuart Mongle, Big Stone Gap, Va.; Mimi
Wirth, Atlanta, Ga.; Anna Johnson, Mooresville, N.C.; and Andrew Johnson,
Mooresville, N.C.
