- JOHNSON CITY - Helen Brummett Alford, 86, Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord and join her husband Billy Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Alford was a Unicoi County native, but had lived most of her life in Johnson City.
She was a daughter of the late Sam and Nancy Tolley Brummett.
Mrs. Alford worked in the textile industry, first with Leon-Ferenbach and later retiring from Bemberg. Following retirement she worked as a cashier at The Meat Shop.
Mrs. Alford was a member of Southwestern Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Alford in 2012, four brothers, Ernest and Robert Hardin, Bill and Wayne Brummett, two sisters, Virgie McLaughlin and Lena Bales.
Mrs. Alford is survived by her daughter, Nancy "Lannie" Alford Watts and husband Keith, Telford; her grandson, Justin Levi Watts, Johnson City; three brothers, Paul Brummett, Cleveland, OH, Ted Brummett and wife Jean, Akron, OH, Raymond Brummett and wife Clara, Unicoi; one sister, June Powers and husband Page, Unicoi; a sister-in-law, Wanda Brummett, Unicoi; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Webb, Dr. Hamati, Dr. Garcia, and the nurses and staff of the 2nd floor of the Johnson City Medical Center, for the excellent care.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 7:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Salyer, officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30- 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The committal service and entombment will be held Wednesday at 12:00 noon in the Mausoleum of Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
