- Mrs. Velva Edwards Ramsey, age 88 of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 8, 1927 in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Braskie and Lula Elizabeth Tolly Edwards. Velva was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was known and loved for her tremendous faith. She had an immeasurable impact on her entire family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Ramsey, a brother, Ray Edwards and a grandson, Anthony Yates.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are children, Johnny Yates (Phoebe) of Johnson City, TN, Mike Ramsey, Linda Parker (Leonard), Diane Ray (Jack), Benny Ramsey (Carol) and Terry Ramsey (Kathy), all of Marion; siblings, Lora Adkins (Raymond), S.J. Edwards (Edith), both of Marion, Estell Edwards (Charlotte) of Alta Pass, Coy Edwards (Joyce), Harmon Edwards (Jean) and Floyd Edwards (Cora), all of Erwin, TN. Twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a special friend and cousin, Carolyn Ledford also survive.
A funeral service in honor of Velva's life will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. Tom Walker, Robert Vance and Matt Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
