- Mr. Harvey J. Canter, 74, of 4992 Meat Camp Road, Todd, died Monday morning, Nov. 20, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born May 15, 1932 in Watauga County, a son of the late Frank and Lillie Icenhour Canter.
Mr. Canter was a retired sawmill operator.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline Icenhour Canter; five daughters, Dovie Evans and husband, Ronnie, Katherine Potter, Lisa Johnson and husband, Van, all of Todd; Loretta Guy and husband, Terry, of Sugar Grove, and Gail Evans of Butler, Tenn.; two sons, Harold Canter of Todd, and Thomas Canter and wife, Michelle, of Boone; two sisters, Dorothy Miller and husband, George, of Hickory, and Viola Coffey of Yadkinville. Twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny Harvey Canter; five brothers, Austin, Gurney, Horton, Odell, and Dennis Canter; three half-brothers, Dave Icenhour, Wade Canter, and Ralph Canter; two half-sisters, Hazel and Berthie Miller; one daughter-in-law, Martha Canter; and one grandson-in-law, David Burchette.
Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Nov. 22, 2006, at Elk Knob Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harold Danner, the Rev. Eric Cornett, and the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating.
Burial followed in the Mains Cemetery.
