Mrs. Ladora Meredith, age 67, succumbed to a short illness this morning at 8 o'clock in St. Elizabeth hospital where she was a patient for the past week.
Mrs. Meredith, daughter of Marion and Martha Hyder of the Gap Creek section and a member of a prominent pioneer family of Carter county, was the widow of Jim Meredith who preceded her in death a number of years ago. She was an active member of the Methodist church of Gap Creek.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Rex Slagle of Elizbethton, Mrs. J. C. Bergandine of Decauter, Illinois, Mrs. Eunice Myers of Roanake, Va., & Mrs. Aaron Sams of Milligan: three sons, Milburn, Fred & Robert Meredith of Gap Creek: one sister, Miss Beulah Hyder of Decauter, Illinois: two brothers, R. D. Hyder or Elizabethton, & Dr. H. P. Hyder of Washington, D.C.: ten grandchildren & four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Gap Creek Christian church, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. John Hall, assisted by Re. J. J. Musick in charge. Interment will be in the Marion Hyder cemetary. The body will be taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rex Slagle, 404 East I street, this evening at 5 o'clock from the Hathaway Funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews of the deceased and will include Howard Slagle, Worley Slagle, Rex Slagle, Jr. Kenneth Bergandine, John Bergandine, Carson Hyder, Brown Hyder & Vance Hyder.
Those in charge of the flowers will include Miss Helen Hyder, Mrs. Carrie Hartley, Mrs. Eva Jones, Mrs. Howard Slagle, Mrs. Rex Slagle, Jr., Mrs. Vada Arnett, Mrs. John Arnett, Mrs. Lillian Treadway, Mrs. Hebart Taylor, Mrs. John Parson, Mrs. Carrger Bradley, Miss Lillian McKinney, Mrs. Howard McKinney, Mrs. Roy Meredith, Mrs. Harry Meredith, Mrs. Carson Hyder, Mrs. Lawrence Meredith, Miss Leona Sams, Mrs. A. C. Chesset, Mrs. Rhoda Meredith, Mrs. Ed Meredith & Miss Nancy Slagle, Mrs. Albert Hathaway, Mrs. Roy Donnelly, Mrs. Shafter Williams & Mrs. Frank Reed.
Honorary pallbearers will include J. W. Sams, P. B. Anold, P. W. Britt, Joe Meredith & Robert Meredith, Sr.
