- Norman Hopson, age 77, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9th, 2015 at Mission's Memorial Campus. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Clifford and Nora Deaton Hopson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Engle and brothers: Howard Hopson and Herbert Hopson. Norman attended Little Creek Holiness Church, where he loved the Lord and singing and listening to gospel music. He retired from Glen Raven Mills and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. He loved to use his hands and work on small engines. He also loved to fish and tie his own flies.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Nadine Lewis Hopson; daughters: Sandra Gregory and husband, Ronnie, of Burnsville, Donna Harrison and husband, Mark, also of Burnsville and Norma Hopson of the home; son, Forrest Hopson also of the home; brothers: Harley Hopson of TN, Carl Hopson of AL, Clifton Hopson of AL; sisters: Charlene Hensley of Burnsville, Francis Whitson of Green Mountain and Shirley Peterson of Burnsville; grandchildren: Brandon and Jeremy Gregory, David Bailey and wife, Kendra, and Emily Harrison all of Burnsville; special friend, Ted Cannon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Brothers Dayton Lewis and Lou Franklin will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home. Private burial will follow the services in the Arvil Lewis Cemetery on Little Creek.
