- Lois Fields Vargo, 87, of Elberta, Ala., formerly of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016, at South Baldwin Hospital in Foley, Ala. Lois was born in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Ezekiel and Hassie Winters Potter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Orville Fields; her second husband, John Vargo; two sisters, Imogene Hollifield and Joyce Peters; and a brother, Ray Potter.
Lois retired from Baxter Pharmaceutical as an inspector on the production line. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Johnson City, Tenn. Lois enjoyed doing genealogy research, gardening, reading and most of all, being with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Ted Fields and wife Patty of Elizabethton, and Michael Fields and wife Jodie of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Marbeth Michael of Elberta, Ala., Vivian Griner of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Fay Woodard and husband Gordon of Mountain City, Tenn.; two brothers, Paris Potter and wife Joyce of Oak Ridge, Ore., and Ralph Potter and wife Helen of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Kathy, Amanda, John, Jeffrey and Christopher; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Lois J. Vargo will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 5, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Bishop Warren Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at the Laurel Fork-Mountain View Cemetery in Roan Mountain, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be David Burkhardt and Carol Hayes.
