- Conley Edward Lewis, 88, formerly of Bluff City, Tennessee, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his son's home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Conley was born in Carter County, Tennessee on September 11, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roby Edward Lewis and Ora Dean Little Lewis; two brothers, James Lewis and Robert Lewis; three sisters, Irene Taylor, Nita Bodgard, and Pauline Cooper; and stepson David Rudolph.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Madge Lewis; son, Terry Lewis; stepson James Rudolph Jr.; step grandchildren James Rudolph III, Jacob Rudolph, Alexis Rudolph, Carey Rudolph, and Alison Cohran; and step great-grandchildren Patrick Cohran, Eliza Cohran, and Elliott Cohran.
Conley retired as the publisher of the Sullivan County News, Blountville, Tennessee. Prior to that, he worked at the Bristol Herald-Courier and Johnson City Press Chronicle newspapers. He also served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, working as a cryptographer in Europe.
Conley was a loving husband, father, stepfather, step-grandfather, step-great-grandfather and friend who touched the lives of many who will miss him enormously. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
