The Latter Day Saint Church Family History Center in Kingsport, TN, has a microfilm of marriages in Ashe County, NC. On the marriage record of Thomas C. Moody and Mary Ellen Trivette, the parents are listed. This record shows that Isaac Moody was the father of Thomas C. Moody. The 1860 Johnson County, Tennessee, census lists Isaac, 26, Louisa, 23, and Thomas C., six. Following Isaac's death, his father, Benjamin Moody, Sr., became the guardian of Isaac and Louisa's children. Thomas moved to Ashe County, where he married Mary Ellen. William moved in to the house of his aunt Matilda, wife of Jacob Rhymer. Benjamin F. is thought to have gone to Leavenworth, Kansas with Tom Triplett, a neighbor in Johnson County, Tennessee.
BIOGRAPHY: Served in Company A, 13th Tennessee Cavalry, US Army, during the US Civil War. Enrolled on 22 Sep 1863 in Carter County, TN. The enlistment record stated that he was 31 years old, born in Ashe County, NC, 6 feet tall with dark complexion, gray eyes and light hair On a 30 Apr 1964 Muster Roll, he is shown as "Sick in Jefferson Hospital Ind." The admission record dated 18 Apr 1864 stated that he had pneumonia, and that his nearest relative was Benjamin Moody of Butler, Johnson County, TN. In May - August 1864, he was listed as present for duty. In March - Jun 1865, he was hospitalized in Knoxville, TN. He was discharged on 26 Jun 1865 in Knoxville, TN because of disability. He filed for a pension on 5 Dec 1870.
