- JOHNSON CITY - Pauline Georgia Oakes Smith, 86, of Johnson City, died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at her home with beloved son Rob by her side. She was a native of Newland, North Carolina, daughter of the late Harrison and Lilly Greene Oakes (a coal miner's daughter).
Pauline was a retired homemaker who will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother who loved family above everything else.
She was hospitable, offering coffee to everyone who entered her door.
A lovely lady who always put her family's needs before her own.
In addition to her parents, her husband, R. C. Smith; two brothers, Floyd and Dewey Oakes; four sisters, Ruby Jones, Odie McKinney, Arlene Barnett, and Ruth Hoilman; her loving granddaughter, Jessica Shalene Morrow preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Janith Smith (husband Jesse) of Jonesborough, Robert Dale Smith of the home, Darlene Sue Smith Morrow of Johnson City; Shelia Kay Smith of Johnson City, and Christopher Allen Smith of Jonesborough; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10:00am until 11:00am at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Oak Chapel. A funeral service will follow under the direction of Minister Greg Gay. Following the service a procession to Roselawn Memorial Park will leave for a committal service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
