- JOHNSON CITY - Irene Chase Bryant, 81, Johnson City, died peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the residence of a daughter, Dianna McMackin.
Irene was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Orris O. and Alta Moody Chase, but was raised by her Aunt Verta and her cousin Ruth Johnson. She was a 1953 graduate of Science Hill High School. Irene was very proud of her volunteer work during high school, volunteering as a candy striper at the Johnson City Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker, and a loving wife and mother. Irene had a special love for animals, and found so much joy in feeding the birds, squirrels and neighbors pets.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward L. Bryant, in 2013; a daughter, Donna Bryant Painter; a grandson, F. Lane Proffitt, III; and a brother.
Irene is survived by two daughters, Debra Bryant Shipley and husband Burl, Johnson City, Dianna Bryant McMackin, Johnson City; five grandchildren, Dustin Proffitt, Andrea Proffitt Moore, Wesley Smith, Erica P. Wright and husband Jordan, all of Johnson City, and Christopher McMackin, Knoxville; two great-grandchildren, Skyler McMackin, Elizabethton, and Gracie May Wright, Johnson City; one niece, Camille Bryant Jones, Arizona; one nephew, Buddy Jack Bryant, South Carolina; her lifelong friends, Doris Hale and Barbara Cole.
The graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016, at 3:00 PM, in Monte Vista Memorial Park, with Pastor Rick Powell, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Burl Shipley, Dustin Proffitt, Wesley Smith, Christopher McMackin and Jordan Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Jack Bryant and Jack Shipley. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 PM on Sunday.
