- He was the son of the late Lum and Maggie Carden Fortner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Florence Fortner; four brothers, Dan, Rhudy, Langford and Eb Fortner, and two sisters, Missouri McPhearson and Nora Nave.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
He attended the Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Fortner retired from the Naval Ship Yard, Newport News, Va., and also had previously worked for the TVA.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Graveside services and interment were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
