- Louise Eggers Whitehead, 75, Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born August 27, 1939 in Boone, North Carolina to Arlie & Mae Eggers. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School. Louise was retired from the Carter County School System as a Teacher's Aide in the special Education. She was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School Secretary for several years. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, feeding the birds and working in her flowers.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years Leon Whitehead. Three Sisters: Ava Nell Morley and her husband J.B., Carolyn Pierce and Glenda Parks all of Elizabethton. One Brother: Cecil Eggers and wife Phyllis, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Eggers and Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Sunday will be: Chris Whitehead, James Morley, Ronnie Townsend, Jeff Presnell, Jason Presnell, Travis Eggers, Michael, McKinney and Mark McKinney. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mike Blevins, Darren Lacy, Raymond Hill, Larry Woody, Estill Whitehead, Jerry Cole, Cecil Largent and DeLaney Berry. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Staff of Mtn. States Cancer Center, Dr. Jaishankar & Nurse Whitney and the 2nd Floor ICU Staff for the excellent care she received. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Louise to the American Cancer Society % Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
