- Iss Barnett, 93, of Erwin, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Barnett was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Soloman and Victoria Griffith Barnett. He worked for Harris Lumber Company. Mr. Barnett worked in tobacco, loved to garden and was well known for selling his vegetables. He sang in gospel quartets in church revivals and other community events. Iss was a member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Garther, Ray and Calvin Barnett and six sisters, Lassie Peterson, Pansy Hughes, Sena Hughes, Mae Hughes, Ann Gouge, and Nell Branch.
Mr. Iss Barnett has left behind to cherish his memories:
Son: James B. Barnett of Erwin;
Daughters: Joyce Cooke and husband, James of Cumming, GA,
Kay Stevens and husband, Steve of Elizabethton;
Grandchildren: Chad Walker, Kristy Smith, Ginger Stevens, Becky Barnett, and Natalie Barnett;
18 Great Grandchildren;
Sisters-in-law: Lois Brummett of Unicoi,
Bennie Tipton of Erwin;

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Iss Barnett in a funeral service to be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Chad Walker, Reverend Jerry Barnett and Reverend Talmadge Brown will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:00 AM and will continue until service time on Wednesday at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens following the funeral service with Reverend Noah Taylor officiating. Pallbearers will be Ernest Garland, Arnold Barnett, Cratus Barnett, Owen Barnett, Clay Barnett, and Avery Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Loren "Steve" Stevens, James Cooke, Jessie Hensley, Darrell Phillips, and Paul Whitson.
