- KINGSPORT - Mamie Giles, age 98, of Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah Elizabeth Price Grindstaff. Mrs. Giles was a charter member of Clifton View Baptist Church, but had been attending Johnson City Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from Magnavox. Mrs. Giles was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Giles was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Giles, July 1991; eight siblings, Louise Head, Charles Grindstaff, Nola Grindstaff, Susan Britt, Ray Grindstaff, Dewey Grindstaff, Frank Grindstaff, and Minnie G. Whitson.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Rogers, Surgoinsville, TN, Debbie Fagan, Kingsport, Robyn Hawkins, Johnson City; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.
The family visitation for Mrs. Giles will be conducted from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home with the funeral service following in the East Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating and the eulogy presented by great granddaughter Mary Ann Riddle.
The graveside service and internment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Lane, Marty Lane, Marcus Riddle, Bill Riddle, Lee Carter, Dana Rogers, III, and Jeffrey Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Gabe Matthew Millard, Mike Fletcher, and Gary Gilley.
