- ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Viola Ethel Sluder Pierce, 89, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord in the company of family and loved ones Tuesday, December 21, 2010, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Shady Valley, she was a daughter of the late Everett Edgar and Grace Robinette Sluder. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.
She was a former employee of the Magnavox Company. Mrs Pierce loved to embroider, quilt, work jigsaw puzzles and take care of her grandchildren. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John B. Pierce Sr.; a daughter: Nellie Pierce Grant; and a sister, Mable McQueen.
Survivors include Three Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Wanda & Gus Johnson, Bristol, Naomi & Bill Jones, Elizabethton, and Margie & Neil Burgner, Limestone; Two Sons & Daughters-in-Law; J.B. & Tracy Pierce, Jefferson City, Missouri, and Edgar and Joyce Pierce, Jackson, Tennessee; Step-Daughter: Johnie Estep, Johnson City; Five Grandchildren: Daniel Pierce and wife, Jill, Vienna, Virginia, Cody Pierce, Monticello, Arkansas, Sarah Jones, Danielle Jones and Benjamin Jones, all of Elizabethton; Two Sisters: Ardna Campbell, Mountain City, and Bertha Hutchinson, Maryville, Tenn.; Several Step-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Wright officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Music will be provided by Edwin Taylor and Dale Williams. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, will be: Kirby Taylor, Tom Reece, Rondal Lowe, Wayne Clemons, Johnny Price, Scotty Campbell, John Garland and Trent Snyder. Honorary pallbearers will be: Nephews and great nephews.
