- Roy Lee Troutman Sr., 85, 189 Hwy. 143, Roan Mountain, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton.
Mr. Troutman was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Hezekiah and Della Heaton Troutman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hughes Troutman, January 28, 1999, a daughter, Dorothy T. Hughes, and a granddaughter, Toni Young Vess.
Mr. Troutman attended Victory Baptist Church. He was retired as owner/operator of the Phillips 66 Service Station in Roan Mountain.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and C.L. Young, Minneapolis, N.C., Billie and LeRoy Gray, Greeneville, and Ruth Ann and Terry Tipton, Johnson City; a son, Roy Lee Troutman Jr., Roan Mountain; four brothers, Guy Troutman, Hampton, J.L. Troutman and Jack Troutman, both of Roan Mountain, and Ralph Troutman, Elizabethton; and two sisters, Edith Troutman Street and Willie Troutman Barnett, both of Roan Mountain. Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Jerry Honeycutt and the Rev. Jim McMahan officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home place in the Burbank community. Interment followed the funeral service in the Troutman Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jonathan Gray, Brady Hughes, Allen Hughes, Terry Tipton, Mark Vess and Ray Heaton. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Marlowe, Robbie Stout, Richard Avery, LeRoy Gray and C.L. Young.
