- Cecil Frazer Renfro, age 90, 273 Toll Branch Road, Johnson City, and formerly of Erwin, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015, following a lengthy illness.
He had lived most of his life in Unicoi County and was a son of the late Tom Renfro, Sr. and Mittie Hampton Renfro.
Mr. Renfro was a WWll U.S. Navy veteran and was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division as a radioman and mapper at the Battle of Tarawa in Gilbert Islands going ashore November 20, 1943. After the war he joined the U.S. Army, serving several enlistments.
He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Renfro retired as a groundsman for a local golf club.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas B. Renfro, Ray Renfro and Jesse Renfro; three sisters, Ruby Adkins, Ella Vanover and Thelma Renfro.
Mr. Renfro leaves behind to cherish his memories one brother, Paul Renfrow, Baltimore, MD; a daughter, Nancy; two grandchildren; his dearest friends and longtime caregivers Loyd and Jerlene O'Neal, Johnson City; a brother-in-law Clifton Vanover of Elkhorn City, KY; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, from 11:00 AM until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel.
Tom Wilkins will deliver the eulogy at the 12:00 PM funeral service. Pallbearers will be John Foister, Josh Greene, Tom Wilkins, Loyd O'Neil, Ross Adkins, Ray Renfrow and Greg Renfrow.
Interment will follow in the McInturff Cemetery, Erwin. Military honors will be rendered at graveside by the V.F.W. Post #4933.
