- Mrs. Sylvia Novella Cook Lewis, 98, 1234 Bluefield Ave., Elizabethton, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at her residence.
An Avery County, N.C., native, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Emma McGuire Cook. She had lived in Elizabethton since 1948. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lewis, in 1980, and by four brothers and three sisters.
She was the oldest member of East Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robina Bowman Hall and Robert Hall, Elizabethton, a son and daughter-in-law, Deward Richard and Paralee Lewis, Canton, Ohio, one brother, Jesse Church, Heaton, N.C., 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and three special friends, Ruth Franklin, Ruth White and Goldie Scott.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
LEWIS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Sylvia Novella Cook Lewis, 98, 1234 Bluefield Ave., Elizabethton, who died Saturday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Messers Kenneth Jones and Willie Church officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Cannon Cemetery, Elk Park, N.C. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be the Annie Hyder Sunday School Class of East Side Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12 p.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
