- UNICOI - Mildred Opal Robinette Byrd Morton, age 88, Unicoi, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Christian Care Center of Unicoi County.
She was a native of Unicoi, but lived in Silver Springs, MD for fourteen years before returning to Unicoi for the rest of her life. Mildred was a daughter of the late Dewey Robinette, Sr. and Minnie Derafield Robinette. She was a lifelong member of Unicoi Church of God.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Morton; her first husband and father of her children, Virgil Byrd; one grandson, David Jordan in 1977; two brothers: Ernest Robinette, Leonard Robinette; two sisters: Irene Tolley, Ethel Byrd.
Mildred leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters: Kathy Owen (Ed), Memphis, Anita Johnson (Jack), Chicago; one son, James Byrd, Elizabethton; one brother, Dewey Robinette, Jr. (Shirleen), Unicoi; one sister, Emma Jean Wallin (Edison), Unicoi; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; her special niece, Amy Wallin Tipton, several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Eddie Blazer will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Jack Johnson and James Byrd will deliver the Eulogy. Music will be provided by Luanne Powers, Ron Shelton, and Amanda Osborne. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Graveside service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Roselawn Memory Gardens.
