- Mrs. Evadna Proffitt Slemp, 68, 1302-B Arney Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, August 16, 1999, at the residence of her daughter following an extended illness.
Mrs. Slemp was a native of Johnson County and had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Proffitt Sr. and Pearl Williams Proffitt and was also preceded in death by her husband, William L. Slemp, in 1978, a sister and three brothers.
Mrs. Slemp was a homemaker and a member of Slagle United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wilma "Peach" and Homer Shell, Elizabethton; a stepdaughter and her husband, Virginia and Bob Agnew, Hillsville, Va.; a stepson and his wife, J.D. and Thelma Slemp, Joliet, Ill.; a brother, Joe Proffitt Jr., Elizabethton; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Kiser, Lisa Kiser Evans, Kristi Kiser Perkins, Kraig Kiser, Daniel and Jason Shell, Bill, Rob and Tim Agnew, Christine Lucky and Mike Slemp; four sisters-in-law, Mable Phillips, Baltimore, Md., Rhoda Kate Rains and Retha Slemp, both of Richmond, Ind., and Beulah Carr, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Dana Slemp, Covington, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
