Until 2003, I was told that Charley DeLoach had married Sarah (Surrey) Lilly on 8 September 1927 supposedly in Hinton, West Virginia. On 9 May 2001, I received a letter stating that the above marriage did not take place in Hinton, WV. On 17 May 2003, Virgie Deloach stated that Charley did not marry Sarah Lilly, but he agreed to watch her children since she was going to prison for killing her husband. It is interesting that the children are boarding with Charley's mother, Margaret McCown in 1930.
On 28 August 2005, Edith Deloach Anderson confirmed that Sarah Lilly did beat her husband to death with a broom handle.
