- Mr. William Bennett died suddenly near his home on Monroe Draft, Irish Corner district this county, last Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1909, aged 65 years.
He had gone to the woods near his home to chop some wood, and a short time after was heard calling for help. He was found in a paralyzed condition, and died before he could be taken home.
Mr. Bennett was born in Summers county, but had lived at Hightop for the past thirty years. He is survived by his wife and eight children, namely: Mrs. William Honaker, of Caldwell;; John R. Bennett, of Fayette county; Wm. R. Bennett, of Pence Springs; Mrs. Charles Bennett, of Covington, Va.; Mrs. C. V. Holesapple, of Durbin; Mrs John Fury, of Seebert; Amos W. Bennett of Caldwell; and O. T. Bennett, of Alleghany county, Va.
Deceased was Confederate soldier in the civil war and a member of the Baptist church. Funeral service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. A. McGlelland, of Ronceverte, and his body was laid to rest in the Adwell graveyard.
