- Elias Jefferson Vines, 95, formerly of 229 Whaleytown Road, Butler, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Vines was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Wilburn James and Matilda Hicks Vines. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lena Hicks Vines, two sons, Brady Vines and Paul Vines, a sister, Bessie Vines, a brother, Cecil Fields, and a son-in-law, the Rev. Dennis Ward.
Mr. Vines was a member of Fish Springs Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and was also a farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Beulah Ward, Butler; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Vines and Glenn and Patricia Vines, all of Butler; a sister, Mae Hicks, Elk Park, N.C.; five grandchildren, Doug Vines, Hampton, Judy Woods, Elizabethton, Cody Vines, Butler, Glenn Vines Jr., Memphis, and Freda Wagner, Butler; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Whaley, Elizabethton; special friends, Effie Henson, Butler, Martha Poole, Butler, and Tony Hathaway, Elizabethton; and all his special friends at Hermitage Health Center.
VINES -- Funeral services for Elias Jefferson Vines, 95, formerly of 229
Whaleytown Road, Butler, who died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Hermitage
Health Center, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6, in the
Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Cable
officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Vines
Cemetery, Butler. Active pallbearers will be Dick Ward, Glenn Vines Jr.,
Cody Vines, Walter Vines, Doug Vines, Johnny Garland and Jessie Garland.
