- Arizona Whitehead Hopson, 85, 6000 Highway 19E, Hampton, died Nov. 25 at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Taylor "Ike" and Cecie Hughes Whitehead. She was a retired employee in the dietary department of the Hillview Health Care Center. She was a member of the Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, but attended Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Hopson; five sisters, Julie Miller, Celia Simerly, Nancy Jeanette Hill, Hattie Jane Whitehead and Virginia Kistner; and by seven brothers, Everett, Elmer, Henry Allen, William Earl, Frank Stewart, Clarence and John A. Whitehead. "Mrs. Hopson was the last surviving granddaughter of John and Nancy Snyder Whitehead."
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Madlyn and Gary Smith, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Carol Hopson, Hampton; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Orman, Garry "Shannon" Hopson, Rachel Tingle, Heather Garrison, Brian Hopson, Donna Hopson, Johnnie Wilson, Jessica Buckles, Trina and Belinda; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dave Morgan officiating. The eulogy will be given by Justin Buckles. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Whitehead Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, will be Rod Whitehead, Ed Miller, Jimmy Whitehead, John Garrison, Justin Buckles and Dillard Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Hill, Phillip Whitehead, Charlie Whitehead, Leslie Whitehead, Eddie Guinn, Sr., Eddie Guinn, Jr., Barney and Betty McKinney. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Adventa Hospice, Rod Whitehead, Maxine Hopson, Larry Smith, Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Sarah Whitehead, Herman Hill, friends and neighbors.
