- Jack Hopson, age 84, of Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Franklin Woods Medical Center following a long illness.
He was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and lived with his loving wife of 60 years, Bertie Waldrop Hopson, on Marbleton Road in Unicoi.
He was a son of the late Jake and Ader Peterson Hopson.
Jack loved his family greatly, and truly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jack liked helping people and did so often, enjoyed gospel music, and would sometimes be caught singing. He was an honest hardworking man and loved by his family greatly.
Jack came to peace in the last days with his illness and with the Lord. Jack will be missed very much by all who had the privilege to know him.
Mr. Hopson was a carpenter with Powell Construction and attended Green Pine Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by brothers, Floyd Hopson, JH Hopson, Smith Hopson and a sister, Ruth Morton.
Jack has left behind to cherish his memories: Wife: Bertie Waldrop Hopson of Unicoi; Sons: Tony Hopson and wife, Helen of Elizabethton; Danny Hopson of Unicoi; Sisters: Georgia Stockton Lavender of North Carolina; Fannie Higgins of Johnson City; 7 Grandchildren: Bobby, Jeremiah, Kris, Racheal, Dani Jo, Tony Jr., and Sydney; 8 Great Grandchildren
Jack's family would like to thank the nursing staff at Franklin Woods Medical Center for taking such good care of him and his family during his stay.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Jack Hopson in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, June 5, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Jack Dykes and Reverend Dallas Gregg will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Diane Phillips.
A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM and continue until service time on Friday at Valley Funeral Home.
A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2015, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Roselawn Memory Gardens.
Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to Roselawn Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Hopson, Danny Hopson, Kris Hopson, Tony Hopson, Jr., George Adkin, Tic Osborne, Budd Honeycutt, and Dakota Gouge.
