- Matilda Opal Ledford, 87, 1235 Hillside Drive, Elizabethton, beloved by her family and friends, went home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Ledford was born in Carter County on August 6, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary Robinson Cole. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Wade Ledford on August 13, 1970.
Mrs. Ledford was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation, was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She loved to quilt, can and take care of her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Ledford is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose B. Ledford of the home; Mary Lee and Garfield Williams, Elizabethton; Sue Combs, Roan Mountain, TN; Ruth and Mack Elliott, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Shirley Ledford, Elizabethton; Dayton and Brenda Ledford, Spindale, NC; three sisters, four brothers, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a very special friend, Mrs. Virgie Hardin, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Ledford will be conducted at 7:30 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2007 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Ronnie Edwards officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Howard Holsclaw, Jr. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2007 in the Cole Cemetery, Lacy Hollow.
