- Bertha Tipton Boone White, age 97, of Hampton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully at Hillview Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, where she had been constantly surrounded by her loved ones throughout her illness.
A native of Carter County, she was born and raised in Roan Mountain, and lived there many years after she married Blaine Boone and had her daughter, Helen. She also lived in Chicago and worked at Brach Candy Company in Chicago, Illinois, for a few years. She then lived in Bristol, Tennessee, and then moved to Hampton, where she lived for 38 years with her daughter, Helen. She was the daughter of the late Ezekiel Mack Tipton and Huldia Greene Tipton.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Bart White; former husband, Blaine Boone; two infant siblings; by her sisters, Lucy Birchfield, Lockie Jane "Ted" Brown Richardson and Josie Spoone Coleman; and her brothers, Lon Tipton, Blaine Tipton, Warren Tipton and Roy "Pete" Tipton.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen Boone Fleenor; granddaughters, Teressa Fleenor, Jennifer Fleenor Sizemore and husband, Tony; great grandchildren, Holly Bumgarner and husband, Tony, Nathaniel Martin, Marah Sizemore Wood and husband, Jordan, Evan Sizemore, Elissah Sizemore and Lydiah Sizemore; great-great grandchildren, Adrianna Bumgarner and Chloe Bumgarner. Several nieces and nephews also survive. One brother, Robert Mack Tipton, Cleveland, Ohio, also survives.
A service to honor the life of Bertha Tipton Boone White will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2015, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. William Lunsford and Tony Sizemore, officiating. Music will be provided by her granddaughter, Jennifer Sizemore.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday.
The committal and entombment service will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Nathaniel Martin, Evan Sizemore, Gary Tipton, Mitchell Brown, Jerry Tipton and Warren Tipton Jr.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jonathon Bremer, for all the wonderful care that he gave her through the years, Dr. Vivian Clark and the staff at Hillview Nursing Home and Rehab, and to Dr. Shobha Hiremagular, for the loving care given, and to other family and loved ones that came to give her cheer and comfort throughout her sickness these past few years.
