- JOHNSON CITY - James Elbert Ward, 84, of Johnson City went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, February 12, 2016, in the Christian Care Center of Johnson City.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late John and Mary Ann Presnell Ward. Mr. Ward was a member of the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ. He had been a salesman most of his life. Mr. Ward was an avid reader and craftsman, and loved to read his bible and loved to attend church and gospel singing.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Johnson Ward in 2005; a son, Farlen Dale Ward; five brothers, Clifton, Howard, Garfield, Dewey and Casey Ward; four sisters, Martha Ward, Mary Alice Hammitt, Evie Presnell and Bessie Lee Presnell.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Gail Ward Archer of Johnson City; two sons, Darrell Ward and wife, Cheryl and Dwayne Ward all of Jonesborough; a brother, Calvin Ward and his wife, Ruth of Johnson City; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Sue Ward of South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Carrington Dailey and husband, Ronnie, Eric Archer and wife, Robin, Arvin Ward and wife, Martha, Amanda Fralin and husband, Aaron, Christopher Ward and wife, Ashley, Jessica and Allison Ward; thirteen great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, February 15, 2016, in the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ, 2733 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, with Pastor Donny Reagan officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Other times at the home of his son, Darrell, 334 A.A. Deakins Road, Jonesborough.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in the Highlands Cemetery, Jonesborough. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Dailey, Charles Archer, Arvin Ward, Christopher Ward, Michael Bailey and Adam Ward.
