Reatha Dugger Winters Jones, 91, formerly of 911 S. Second Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, following an extended illness. Jones was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a daughter of the late Henry and Jane Hobson Dugger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Winters; her second husband, Carl Jones; a daughter, Judy Winters Nidiffer; a son, Fred E. Winters; a grandson, Gerry Winters; a sister and three brothers.
Mrs. Jones was of the Baptist faith. She had worked as a hospital aide in Cleveland, Ohio.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Goldie and Millard Jones, Roan Mountain, Elizabeth and W. Lock Davis, Nebo, N.C., Dimple and Larry Varney, Frankfort, Ky., and Edith and Glenwood Arrington, Martinsville, Va.; two sons and a daughter-in- law, Ralph and Betty Winters, Roan Mountain, and Arthur "Jr." Winters, Roan Highlands Nursing Center; 20 grandchildren; 39 great- grandchildren; 17 great- great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Judith Lyons, Gaithersburg, Md. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Jones will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, the Rev. Dan Cole, grandson, and the Rev. Chris Hay- wood, grandson, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Jones' granddaughters and Gloria Holly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Friends may call at other times at the residence of a daughter and son-in- law, Goldie and Millard Jones, 107 Orr Street, Roan Mountain. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Gastineau, and the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
