- Bernice Forrester Garland, 95, Butler passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012, in the Mountain City Care Center following an extended illness.
A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar & Ella Tester Forrester. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Garland was a member of the Little Doe Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Garland, September 24, 1997; and one sister and seven brothers.
Her hobby was quilting.
Survivors include a step-daughter: Doris Brown and her husband, Clayton, Butler; A step-grandson: Everett Brown, Butler; A sister: Emma Ruth Phillippi, Felton, Delaware; Several nieces & nephews, including a special niece & friend, Geraldine Cable and her husband, Richard; Her special friends, Grace Glover and Bonnie Stout.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, in the Little Doe Baptist Church, Butler, with the Rev. Kreg Smith officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in the Rock Springs Cemetery. Music will be provided by the church choir. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday and also at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, will be: Tony Milam, Tom Kyte, Glen Good, Larry Slemp, Paul Lowe and R.E. Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jim Rainbolt, Dr. James Shine, Ed Fletcher, Burnice Gentry, Bill Stout, Howard Stout, Park Arnold and her church family.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Little Doe Baptist Church and other times at the residence of Geraldine & Richard Cable, 240 Doeville Road, Butler.
