- JOHNSON CITY — Mr. Fred Douglas Duncan, 89, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Hermitage Health Center.
He was the son of the late W.A. and Eliza Greenwell Duncan, Sr. and was born in Old Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Harrison and a brother, W.A. Duncan, Jr.
Mr. Duncan attended Watauga Academy, graduated from Elizabethton High School and also attended Steed College of Business. He worked at May Mead Lime Company of Mountain City, Giant Food Markets, Winn Dixie and retired from United Oil Company. Following his retirement he repaired clocks. He was a faithful member of Calvary and Sinking Creek Baptist Churches.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Arcadia Floyd Duncan of the home; a sister, Helen Duncan of Elizabethton, a nieces Brenda Brown, a great niece, Lisa Montgomery, a great-nephew, Joe Brown, great-great nephews, Seth and Cody Montgomery and Houston Brown, all of Hampton. He also leaves a host of cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Duncan will be conducted on Thursday, February 18, 2016, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. David Montgomery and Rev. Cody Montgomery officiating. Music will be under the direction of Seth and Cody Montgomery.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Donnie Mitchell, Larry Lewis, David Cannon and others selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the men's Sunday School Class of Sinking Creek Baptist Church.
