- William Byron "Bill" Marsh, 84, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Life Care Center East in Greeneville, Tennessee. He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in Maryville. Mr. Marsh was a long time automobile salesman for Roger's Cadillac in Knoxville. He served with the Army National Guard and the Merchant Marine during World War II. He and his wife Louise were both founding members of The Gatlinburg Highland Games. For the last several years, Mr. Marsh was a regular member of the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Bridge Club of Greeneville. He was born August 19, 1924, son of the late William B. and Corinthia Hyder Marsh of Elizabethton and was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law, Lewis and Peggy Merryman and Jim and Hazel Clear all of Elizabethton. He was a widower of Louise Leith Marsh, who passed away November 23, 2000. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Norman and Ruth Anne Marsh of Farragut and William Brownlow "Brownie" Marsh of Maryville; one daughter and son-in-law, Amanda "Mandy" and Mike Franklin of Greeneville; six grandchildren, Billy Havik of Playa del Carman, Mexico, Elaine Marsh Peterson of Richmond, Virginia, Hannah Franklin Kirkpatrick of Greeneville, Leith Marsh of Knoxville, Alex Franklin of Knoxville, and Chuck Marsh of Farragut; four great-grandchildren; Nathan, Mary-Kensley, and Olivia Peterson of Richmond, and Sutton Kirkpatrick of Greeneville; one niece and family, Cathy Clear and Pete Ross and daughters, Holly and Annie Ross all of Elizabethton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert "Bud" and Nancy Thomas and the Late Jerry Allen and Lori Hoffman Thomas all of Elizabethton; one sister-in-law, Julia Leith "Judy" Hartel of Lake Charles, Louisiana, deceased, and children Kent Hartel and Leith Hewitt both of Texas; many special nieces and nephews; two cousins, Edna Carrington of Kingston, and Gaye McCulloch of Elizabethton; special friends, Matilda "Tid" Bowen and Matilda Green both of Greeneville; and special caregivers, Life Care Center East of Greeneville and Martha Brown of Chucky. A graveside service and interment will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday February 4, 2009 at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, pallbearers will be Mike and Bud Thomas and honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth H. "Bucky" Howard Jr., Trevor Peterson, George Pate, Haynes Elliot, Tom Hawkins, Pete Ross and Donald Mason. The family will receive friends from Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
