- BUTLER — Gedar G. Harmon, age 86 of Butler, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday January 13, 2013, in the Johnson County Community Hospital.
He was born March 9, 1926 to the late Virgil and Minnie Stout Harmon. In addition to his parents, Gedar was preceded in death by a daughter Patsy McNulty; granddaughter Brenda Gail Allen; sisters: Mamie Powell, Ruby Proffitt, Della Oliver, Florecne Proffitt, Bonnie Stout, Berna Lee McIntosh, Ella Fair Harmon, Wyona Malcolm and Billie Jean Hackney; brothers: Russell W. Harmon and Ranzo Harmon.
Gedar enjoyed reading his bible, being outdoors, hunting and fishing, working puzzle books and sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds.
Gedar was a faithful man and was a member of Sink Valley Baptist Church.
Gedar loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be deeply missed, especially by his special Little Boy Bandit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia (Toots) Smith Harmon; daughter and son-in-law: Glenda and Larry Greer; son and daughter-in-law: Glenn and Kathy Harmon of Butler; son-in-law: Daniel McNulty of Johnson City; sisters: Villa Sparks and husband Mark Tipton N.C.; eight grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Alan Koch and Harvey White to officiate. Graveside Service and Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 from Harmon Family Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.
