- Ruth Carter Howell, 97, Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Appalachian Christian Village.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Little and Lucy Estep Carter.
Ruth was a member of Hopwood Christian Church and volunteered at the Ladies Auxiliary, Carter County Memorial and Sycamore Shoals Hospital for over 20 years. Ruth was an Election Clerk for six decades.
She enjoyed crocheting and was a wonderful baker and many times the citizens of the Tri-Cities could taste her delicious cakes at her son, Alan Howell's restaurant, Dixie B-B-Q.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dottie Howell; siblings, Dana Clarence "Bounce" Carter, Olaf Parker Carter, Bronson Little Carter, William Dale "Bob" Carter, Louis Ray Carter, Zelma Inez Carter Crawford, Charlotte Sue Carter Jackson, Bruce Estep Carter and Lois Frye Carter.
She leaves behind sons and daughters-in-law, William D. Howell Jr. and Rose Ann Howell, Johnson City, and Alan and Mary Ann Howell, Piney Flats; sister, Margaret Nell Carter Gagaliano, New Orleans, LA; brother, George Carter, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Hannah Ruth Howell, Elizabethton, and Richard "Richie" Alan Howell Jr., Johnson City; and a great-granddaughter, Mariah Ann Howell, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service for Ruth Carter Howell will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Mr. Tim Ross, Minister, officiating.
A Graveside and Committal service will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Steve Carter, Kenneth Carter, Bruce Carter Jr., Richie Howell, Doug Matney, her nephews and the members of Hopwood Christian Church.
