- Mr. Bradford Carson Moody, age 88, 918 Lake Drive, Johnson City went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at his residence.
He was a native of Johnson City and a son of the late Charles Zollie and Rissie Branham Moody.
Mr. Moody was a blood member of the Monacan Indian Tribe.
He was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church.
From February 20, 1943 to May 8, 1945, Mr. Moody served in the Pacific Theater of World War II as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
From November 16, 1943 to January 1, 1944 he participated in the capture of Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville Island, British Solomon Islands.
From July 23, 1944 to August 15, 1944, he participated in the capture and occupation of the island of Guam.
From February 22, 1945 to March 26, 1945, he participated in the assault and capture of the island of Iwo Jima.
Mr. Moody retired from Piedmont Airlines as their operations manager for Tri-Cities Regional Airport.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Moody was preceded in death by: two sisters, Mary Moody and Frances Smith; three brothers, Andy, Fred, and Niles Moody; and one half-brother, Augustus Brantley; one son-in-law, Pat Finley.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-four years, Gwendolyn Sneed Moody, of the home; son, Mark Moody, and his wife Patricia, of Johnson City; daughter, Susan Moody Finley, of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Dr. Heather Champney, and her husband Dr. Greg Champney, Shannon Michelle Godsey, and Katheryn Moody, all of Johnson City, and Brittany Moody Reece, and her husband Chad, of Jonesborough; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Aiden, Reahnee, Eliana, and Harrison; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Bradford Carson Moody will be conducted 8:00 PM Sunday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Mr. Scott Thompson and Rev. Steve Pate will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Mitchell, Robert Rodgers, Caleb Laws, Gary Jeffers, John Smith, and Jimmy Beard.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim Pickle, Jim Star, Ben Pat Bailey, Gene Weems, Buford Stone, Glenn Shanks, Bill Johnson, Leroy Pickel, Charlie Johnson, and Leon Cox.
Graveside services will be conducted 12 noon Monday from Monte Vista Memorial Park. The VFW Post #4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord Military honors.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Morris-Baker by 11:40 AM to go in procession to the cemetery for those services.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
