- The 1790 Census of Dorchester County, South Carolina lists a Samuel Smart with three sons under 16, and three females, one being his wife.
The 1820 Census of Feliciana Parish, Louisiana lists the following:
Samuel Smart
Males 1(0-10), 1(10-16), 1(16-18), 1(16-26), 1(26-45)
Females 1(10-16), 1(16-18), 1(16-26), 1(26-45)
There are no other Smart families listed in the extant Louisiana census records for 1820.
Samuel Smart and John W. Smart are listed as a Head of Household in the 1830 West Feliciana Parish, LA Census.
James Smart and John W. Smart are listed as a Head of Household in the 1840 West Feliciana Parish, LA Census.
James Smart was married in 1823 in West Feliciana Parish, LA
James Smart named one of his sons Samuel Smart.
This circumstantial evidence supports Samuel Smart being the father of James and John W. Smart.
