- Mrs. Joann B. Hill, 68, 1932 West Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at her residence following a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late George and Eva Jane Morgan Oxendine. Mrs. Hill was retired as co-owner of the Furniture Outlet in Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hill; two sisters, Glynia Bowling and Geneva Odom; a brother, Harvey Oxendine; and her beloved companion, Dutchess.
Survivors include a son, Brian Buckner and wife, Kim, Elizabethton; a daughter, Terri Hughes, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Micah Hughes, Elizabethton; a brother, Jim Oxendine and wife, Velma, Johnson City; three sisters, Lonnie Hill and Rosalee Stevens, both of Hampton, and Patsy Higgins, Morganton, NC. Several nieces and nephews and her special companion, Dutch, also survive.
Funeral service for Mrs. Joann B. Hill will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Sunday, July 8, 2012, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Gary Whitehead and Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of RhodyJane Meadows.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service or at the residences of any of the family members at other times.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 9, 2012, in Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Roger Lambert, Eddie Odom, Danny Odom, John Holsclaw Sr., John Holsclaw Jr., Ronnie Taylor, Jimmy Oxendine and James Avery. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bowling, Paul Jones, G.W. Puckett, Randy Jones, William Greenwell, Willie Holsclaw, Bobby Sullins, Todd Isaacs, Briscoe Cooper, Rob Lambert, Sid Smithdeal, Herman Hill and special friends, Pat Yelton, Gay Ward, Jake Roark, Tracy Guy, David Shields; friends at the Jonesborough Veterinary Clinic and friends at the Carter County Assessor of Property Office. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
