Hooker Oliver, age 81, of Route 1, Hampton died at the residence unexpectedly Monday. He was a native of Carter County and a retired carpenter, and formerly worked at the Lakeshore Boat Dock. Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Morley Oliver, September 1963. Survivors include seven sons, Ray, Jess, Fate, and Edward Oliver, all of Hampton; Howard Oliver of Burgie Street, Elizabethton; Roy Oliver of Mountain City, and James T. Oliver of Greenville, S.C.; two daughers, Mrs. Ina Shoun of Route 7, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Myrta Mendenhall of Kingsport; a brother, George Oliver of Route 2, Hampton; 28 grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral services for Hooker Oliver will be held 2:30 pm Wednesday from the Union Baptist Church, Officiating will be Rev. Warren Montgomery. Music by the Church Choir. The body will be taken to the home of a son, Ed Oliver, Route 2, Hampton, at 3 pm Tuesday and will be removed to the church at noon Wednesday to await the service hour. Active pallbearers will be Henry Potter, Sam Oliver, Mort Campbell and Larry Hinkle. Flower bearers will be friends. Interment will be at Morton Cemetery. Tetrick Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
