- Walter Paige Broyles, 77, 549 Piercetown Rd, Butler, Tenn., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
A native of Sullivan County, he was a son of Henry Luther and Senia Comer Broyles. Mr. Broyles was preceded in death by fifteen brothers and sisters.
Mr. Broyles lived a number of years in Johnson County. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #218 Butler. Mr. Broyles was a former member of the Johnson County Board of Education, where he had served as Chairman. He was a member of the Pierce Baptist Church, where he was a teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was a Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Pierce Broyles; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Billy Joe White, Taylor, South Carolina, and Helen and Gary Stout, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Geri Broyles, Elkhart, Indiana, and Danny and Susie Broyles, Elizabethton; and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Crowe, Elizabethton. Eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Oddis Dugger and Rev. Harvey White officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, in Butler Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, will be John Dugger, Johnny Pierce, Billy Joe Greene, Steve Pierce, B. J. Horn and Elbert Nichols. The family will receive from 7 - 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 will conduct a memorial service following the funeral service. V.F.W. Post 2166 will conduct military graveside honors. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Saturday.
