- Barton Allen Hawkins, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born on March 9, 1925, to the late Clyde and Hazel Vaught Hawkins. In addition to his parents, Barton was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Sue Hawkins; and a brother, Johnny Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wynell Pardue Hawkins; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Ann Hawkins; brother, Joe Hawkins; granddaughter, Kisha Wilson; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Barton was a 1944 Graduate of Johnson County High School. Following high school, Barton enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served during World War II.
Following his military career, Barton returned to farming. He was a graduate of the Graham School Cattlemen in Garrett, Kansas; served 12 years as Southeast Division Director of Dairymen, Inc.; served 14 years as Director of American Dairy Association of Tennessee; served 14 years as Director of Food and Nutrition Council of the Appalachian; Former President of the Tennessee Milk Producers Federation; served 4 years as the Director of the National Dairy Council; Delegate to the National Milk Producers Federation.
Barton was a member of the 94th and 95th Tennessee General Assemblies; served 16 years as Director of Soil and Water Conservation of Johnson County; Delegate to the 1970 Tennessee Constitution Convention representing the 4th Legislative District; served 4 years as a Member of the Private Industry Council of Tennessee and Tennessee State Representative from 1985-1988.
Barton was a 32nd Degree Mason and Knight Commander of the Court of Honor; Scottish Rite and Jericho Shriner.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Mountain City Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Private Inurnment will be held later.
