- Oscar Cleo Calhoun, 83, Rt. 9, Elizabethton, died Tuesday in the V.A. Medical Center, Mountain Home; following an extended illness. A native of Avery County, N.C., he was the son of the late Harrison and Frances Bentley Calhoun. Mr. Calhoun was a member of the North Side Baptist Church, a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation, a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post No. 2166. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Nicky Walker, and by two brothers, Tate and Clarence Calhoun. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fannie Presnell Calhoun, of the home; two sons, Roger Calhoun, Elkhart, Ind., and H.L. Calhoun, Mishawaka, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. David (Lillian) Watts, Larnburg, N.C., Lucille Powell and Joyce Pierce, both of Elizabethton; one brother, Jeffie Calhoun, Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Mike (Texie) Peters, Hampton, and Mrs. Sam (Grace) Harrison, Elizabethton; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Presnell, Roan Mountain. Twenty-two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
