- ELIZABETHTON – Mrs. Loretta A. Miller,100, formerly of 314 Lincoln Drive, Elizabethton, passed safely into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Hillview Health Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Miller was the daughter of the late Rufus and Mollie McQueen Cress and was born in Johnson County, TN. She had also lived Indiana.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lattie Miller, on January 25, 1983; five sisters, Ruby Wenzel, Jean Wenzel, Sally Jones, Winnie Ornduff, Floy Daily and two brothers, Blake Cress and James Cress.
Mrs. Miller was the oldest living member of Hunter First Baptist Church and was a former employee of Elizabethton Hosiery, Bemberg and she retired from U.S. Steel. She loved to crochet, embroider and especially to read her Bible.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth C. and Mary June Miller, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Pamela Miller, Johnson City, Michael Miller and his wife, Tammy, Elizabethton, Susan Gibson and her husband, Don, Donna Taylor and her husband, Sam, Julie Beale and her husband, Sam, all of Johnson City; six great-grandchildren; and a favorite nephew whom she fostered when he was a child, Nolan Miller, IN. Many other loving nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted for Mrs. Miller on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Sherrel Nave and Rev. Grant Whittenbarger officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Ornduff, John Ornduff, Don Ross, Richard Hardin and Powell Wilson. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:00 PM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to visit the funeral home between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Friday at their convenience.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Hale Community Ministries of Carter County, 1301 Arney Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to the staff of Hillview Health Center for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Miller during her time there.
