- Beulah Green Burnette, age 94, of Crossville TN, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Crossville, TN. A native of Johnson City, she was a daughter of the late Royal Green and Ellen Jones Green.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burnette was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Howard Eldredge Burnette; sister, Eva Moody, Brothers, Fred and Lester Green; half-brothers, Brady and Burnett Green, and grandson, Thomas Emmanuel Burnette II.
Beulah was a people person and enjoyed life. She had a beautiful smile and beautiful eyes. She was very sweet but enjoyed teasing her three sons. She loved her dogs, myna birds and cockatiels. She named all her birds Sam. She loved crafts and won ribbons at the Appalachian Fair in Gray, TN. Beulah loved attending worship services and attending the Diana Singing in Diana, TN which is two days congregational acapella gospel singing. In September 2015 she received a trophy for being the oldest female singer. She enjoyed boating with her family and friends. Beulah looked forward to Christmas decorating and enjoyed traveling on cruises and going on RV trips. While on a RV trip she fulfilled a dream by getting to attend the Grand Old Opry. Beulah enjoyed attending family reunions. Family was important to Beulah which is why she moved back to Johnson City when she retired. She served her community by being a member of the Civil Air Patrol. She was “Rosie the Riveter” at the Charleston Ship Yards during World War 2. Technically she didn't rivet. She worked in the tool room. She worked at Western Union in Atlanta, GA following the war and was a bookkeeper at Commercial Credit in Covington, KY. Beulah owned the Chick N Treat Restaurant in Tifton, GA. She finished her career as a bookkeeper for Dobbs House Catering in San Antonio, TX.
Survivors include her three sons, Howard and wife, Kathy, Harry and wife, Frances, Tom and wife, Linette; Two grandchildren, Melanie, and husband Jack Bruner, Melissa, and husband Sam Baxter. Three great grandchildren; Abigail Bruner, Luke Baxter and Joshua Baxter and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 3, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Sunset Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, 3001 Peoples Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
A funeral service will be conducted at Washington County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, at 1:30 P.M Sunday, August 4 with Mr. Tim Hall, preacher for the Central church of Christ officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Bruner, Sam Baxter, Luke Baxter, Joshua Baxter, Ricky Laws.
