- Mr. J. Stewart Potter, 78, 405 Old Buck Mountain Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Potter was a native of Carter County (Shell Creek community) and was the son of the late Jake and Nancy Jones Potter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters, and one grandson, Mikie Thompson.
He was a retired construction worker and farmer. He was of the Christian faith and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Frances Storie Potter of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa and David Odom; and Linda Potter and Michael Thompson, all of Roan Mountain; one son and daughter-in-law, Brookie and Jean Potter, Elizabethton; three sisters: Okie Calhoun and Hildra Leonard, both of Hampton; and Florence McDonnell, Adrian, Mich.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one special nephew, Jess Simerly, Hampton, and several other nephews and nieces.

POTTER -- Funeral services for Mr. J. Stewart Potter, 78, 405 Old Buck Mountain Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., who died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte Smith, organist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in the Potter Family Cemetery, Roan Mountain, with military honors accorded by the Lynn H. Folsom, V.F.W. Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers will be Jamie Perez, Jess Simerly, J.D. Calhoun, Michael Thompson, Kenny Jones, and Randy Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Potter, Crawford Potter, Fred Potter, Robert Vanhoy, George Shoemaker, A.J. Borders, Paul Harrison, Jr., Terry Harrison, Richard Harrison, Michael Harrison and Claude Jones. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, Aug. 13, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, or you can call at the residence, 405 Old Buck Mountain Road, Roan Mountain at any time. The family friends, minister and pallbearers will meet Monday at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m. for the graveside service.
