- Jack Hicks, 84, of 308 Sycamore Drive, Jonesborough,
Washington co TN, died Monday, September 8, 2008, at the
Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WIS.
He was a native of Glen Ayre, NC, son of the late Jess and
Pansy Yelton Hicks.
Jack was a retired forklift operator for the International
Harvester Company. He was a member of the Church of Jesus
in Johnson City. Jack was a veteran of WW II, having
served in both the U.S. Army and the Army Air Corps. He
volunteered his time by visiting both nursing homes and
the Veterans Hospital and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
brother, Claude Hicks.
Survivors include, his wife of 58 years, Gladys Hicks; two
sons, James Tate, of Red Oak, TX, and Maurice Tate and his
wife, Betty, of Watersmeet, MI; a daughter and son-in-law,
Leola and Jim Nottingham, of Antioch, ILL; two sisters,
Hazel Gouge, of Bakersville, NC, and Ann Pixley, of
Johnson City, TN; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Bill
and Trudy Hicks, of Elmwood Park, ILL, and Daisy Hicks, of
Johnson City, TN; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grand-
children and two great great grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, September 13,
2008, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus under the
direction of Rev. George Hall and Rev. Dallas Cook. There
will be no public visitation.
A committal service and burial will follow in the Monte
Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Greg, Jeff
and John Nottingham and Jimmy, Steve and Patrick Tate.
