- Rev. F.C. Calhoun, 61, of Midway died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in a local hospital following a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church at MacArthur with Revs. L.A. Garten, Winston Sweeney and Lee Richardson officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Mausoleum.
Rev. Calhoun was born June 16, 1912 in Newland, N.C., a son of the late Larkin C. and Lina Tolley Calhoun. He was a retired miner, a member of the UMWA and had pastored the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church for 10 years, prior to his retirement in July. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Franklin Calhoun of Midway; two sons, Rev. Larkin C. Calhoun of Pine View and Harold of Dallas, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Jimmy (Rose Marie) Hunter of Charleston, Mrs. Jimmy (Reba Jane) Beckett of Crab Orchard and Mrs. Robert (Drema Gail) Trump of Beckley. Three Brothers, Earl of Spartan, N.C., James and John L., both of High Point, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs Media Cornett of Marion, N.C., Mrs. Rosy Buchannon of Newland, N.C., Mrs. Nina Mae Olson of High Point, N.C. and Mrs. Ruth Moody of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren. Friends may call at the Williams Funeral Home at Sophia from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Dorsey Shrewsbury, Earl Ratliff, John Edwards, John P. Mullins, Norvell Polk, Vincent Daniel, Homer Green and Hiram Reed. The body will be taken to the church an hour prior to the service.
